Ideal Denture Candidates
Tooth loss can impair your ability to speak, eat, and function with ease and confidence. Dentures offer a convenient solution to meet these needs and enhance your quality of living. You may be an ideal candidate for custom dentures if you have lost most or all of your teeth or require tooth extractions but still maintain a strong jawbone. If you have natural teeth, they may either be extracted for a full denture or you can keep them as support for a partial denture. In some cases, we may partner with a dental specialist who can surgically place dental implants in the jaw to be used to support a fixed denture appliance. In your initial consultation with our clinical team, we will examine your mouth and explain your denture options to help you meet your tooth replacement goals and treatment needs.
What Is the Treatment Process?
We offer a variety of denture options, including removable full and partial dentures, immediate and conventional removable dentures, and implant-supported dentures. Immediate dentures are created ahead of any necessary tooth extractions and can be worn right after teeth are removed. Conventional dentures are placed once the mouth fully heals, which is usually about 8 – 12 weeks later. To create custom dentures, we take impressions of the mouth and send these molds to a professional dental lab. Dentures are made to match both your tooth replacement needs and cosmetic goals. With the advanced materials in use today, dentures can be made to replicate natural tooth and gum color for an attractive result. Modern dentures may be made of lightweight resin materials and/or metal framework that provide the security and comfort needed for tooth replacement. Dentures may also be specially made to attach securely to a set of implants that have been surgically placed in the jaw by a trusted specialist. As soon as your full or partial dentures are finished, we will have you return to our office to have them fitted. Your dentures will be adjusted as needed for security and comfort.
Caring for Tooth Replacements
Our team will provide you with instructions on how to care for your dentures. While partial dentures are usually held in place by clasping discreetly around existing teeth, full removable dentures may require a small amount of denture adhesive for retention. It may require some time before your new dentures feel comfortable; however, it should be easier to eat and speak normally as you become accustomed to your tooth replacements. If the dentures feel loose, please let us know so we can adjust them for you as soon as possible. At home, you can care for your dentures by brushing them after every meal. When you remove your dentures, they should be soaked to keep them from drying out or changing shape. We recommend that you maintain routine dental visits with our Lancaster, PA team, even if you wear full dentures. During your visits, we will evaluate your gum tissues, bone structure, and the fit of your dentures and clean them with a special solution. With good care, your dentures can last for several years.
